Welcome to the Backup House! I’m Shalonne (pronounced Sha-Lone like Lonestar). My interest in design began in high school but pursuing a career in an industry where no one looked like me and I had no idea how a living was made, seemed foolish. Instead, I went to business school, completed my degree in Marketing, and began my career as a Digital Marketer.
While I loved Marketing, Design was my true love and when I was 27 years old, I went back to school for Interior Design. In 2009 I launched Foster Design Group (my maiden name) and began working as a designer while also keeping my Marketing job. Turns out 2009 was not the best year to launch any business that had to do with the home (google the 2009 housing crisis), so full-time Marketer I became.
In 2015 my husband and I bought our first home together (his first, my third). To hold myself accountable, I started posting my home projects on Instagram and found a community.
Some facts about me:
- I’m left-handed
- I don’t like the taste of mayonnaise, most chocolate, or alcohol
- I didn’t get married until I was 35 and had my first child at 37
- I’m a stepmom – K is 12 years old
- I spend one year traveling, I visited 9 countries, 3 states, and took one cross-country road trip
- I’m the former CEO of the #1 fashion site in Seattle (2011)
