Week 5 and 6 were full of birthdays (both mine and Chris’) and a holiday (Mother’s Day) so not much work got done.
The cabinets are taking shape and I must admit I’m liking this new layout. As it turns out the cabinet mistake worked in my favor. The shift in thinking from grave mistake to happy accident didn’t occur until Greg, our cabinetmaker, installed the frame around the wash tower. It added a new level of detail and made the wash tower look extra fancy. I love it!
We’ve been using the wash tower for a couple of weeks and so far, I love it. I was sure that I would hate having the washer and dryer stacked, but I can report I dislike moving laundry from the bottom to the top the same amount as moving it from the left to the right. I’ll do a complete review after I download the app and use all the functionality.
I currently have one double-length role of our current wallpaper (the blue peacocks on the yellow background), which in theory should be enough. However, since my design calls for the wallpaper to run above the beadboard and across the ceiling, I thought it would be wise to order another roll. After receiving word that our wallpaper was delayed once again, I begin to casually search online for an alternative. I no longer trusted the restock dates, the last shipment was supposed to arrive in November of last year. AS a reminder here is the original design plan:
Truth be told, I was already getting a bit tired of the yellow (primer). It wasn’t feeling as light as I wanted in this windowless room at the back of our house. Since there are a bazillion wallpaper options I thought if I narrowed it down to peacocks, I could make the search manageable. One of the features I liked about our current wallpaper is the different colors it has, it allowed me to pull contrasting colors for the paneling and cabinetry, which I didn’t want to be the same. Many wallpapers are two-tone, limiting the color options. If I was going to switch wallpapers this late in the game, I wanted it to work with the color options I already specified or at least allow me to keep the cabinet and paneling two different colors.
Well, my late-night searching came up with a winner: This beautiful Rifle wallpaper by York that came in multiple colorways. And the bonus Chris loved it and it was slightly cheaper than the original one. The only not-so-great part, all the colorways had a background color that I don’t love (yet). The one I selected has a dark green as the darkest color in the pattern (in my mind the beadboard is a dark color), which I most certainly didn’t want to paint the beadboard. I already have a green room and want to mix it up. For now, I’m planning on pulling the blue of the bird for the beadboard and another color (TBD) for the cabinets. I also added some wood doors to the cabinets. Overall, I think this new scheme is more sophisticated and refined.

What is the One Room Challenge?
Beginning in 2011 with the desire to finally finish ONE room in her home, Linda had the idea to motivate herself and a small group of online friends by setting up a challenge to work alongside one another with the goal of having one finished room. She titled the event One Room Challenge®, as it became evident that staying focused on one room, from start to finish, was indeed a challenge.
Today, the bi-annual event showcases designers and Influencers. The first Wednesday of every April & October marks the start of another exciting season guaranteed to inspire, entertain, and inform the audience of new ideas and trends in the world of home design.
Don’t forget to check out the featured designers and guest designers to support them and see the awesome things they are doing in their rooms too!
